Potty Training

We’ve been trying to potty train Evan. What that’s resulted in is Evan “potty training” Mia:

Mommy: do you want to go poo poo in the potty?

Evan: no, I make poop in that room (family room)

Morning at the Morton Arboretum

One of our favorite outdoor places to play is the Morton Arboretum. It was a bit cool, but it was partly sunny and we needed something to do so we headed to the Children’s Garden. We haven’t been in a few months, so it was fun to see how much more Evan can do now and to see Mia actually explore (the last time we were there she wasn’t moving).

Dinner Time Teasing

Just a typical meal in the Kantowski household…

Evan the Defender

The weather is pretty lousy, so Lindsay took the kids to KidsTown this afternoon to burn some energy.  At any kids play place like that, sharing can be a challenge.  A little girl came and took Mia’s horse (from home), and Evan saw it go down.  He calmly walked up to the little girl and took the horse back and said “no, that’s Mia’s” and returned it to his little sis.  Our little hero!

Evan’s First Best Friends

This is Puppy.  He loves snuggling, walking, and diaper changes.

This is Hoppy.  He enjoys snack time, swings and reading books.

They are currently Evan’s best friends.  He enjoys human kids as well, but these two are definitely the ones he’s bonding with the most lately.

He takes them for walks:

They have snacks together:

They hang out at the playground:
And, at the end of the day they avoid taking real naps together.
Everyone deserves best friends.  We’re glad our little one found two of his own.

Evan “Changes” His Own Diaper

Tuesday morning “fun”

I open the door to Evan’s room and to my surprise, Evan was standing there buck naked.

Mommy: “Evan what happened to your diaper?”

Evan: “Oh no, yucky butt!”

Mommy: “Did you take your diaper off?”

Evan: “Dep (evan’s version of “yes”.  Yucky diaper.  Stinky diaper!”

Mommy: “Evan, only mommy and daddy are allowed to take off your diaper.”

Evan: “Yucky butt mommy.  I helped!”

He was so proud of himself, I couldn’t be mad.  And, he fortunately didn’t get the poop anywhere. However, he now sleeps with his sleep sack on backwards during nap and night time to avoid dealing with this again 🙂  Sometimes mommy is smarter than a 2 year old.

Celebrating Anna

On Sunday, Evan, Mia and I headed to Darien Park District to celebrate the lovely Anna’s 2nd birthday.  What a fantastic facility!  Their motor room has so many fun things: ball pit, a wheel around with bikes, slides, cars to drive, climbing structure and more.  The kids loved it!  And, the hallways even have fun things in them.  Evan and Mia had a blast and it was even more special because we got to celebrate one of Evan’s friends.  Thanks, Anna, for including us in your celebration!

Evan and Mia head to the Zoo (aka the Babysitter’s house)

Our babysitter Lindsay is a big time animal lover and today she took Evan and Mia to her house to meet her some of her pets: Sophie, the large orange and white dog; Hobbs, the small tri-colored dog, Cisco the parakeet, Aggie the tortoise and Shelby the pig.  The kids loved the animals and I think it may have been better than the zoo!  I better watch out, or Lindsay will start charging admission fees 🙂

Our Little Pigskin

Evan recently joined Lil Pigskins, a football program for kids 18 months – 9 years of age.  Football for tots–yes!  It is so much fun and hilarious to watch.  Have no fear, there’s no tackling involved.
